William L. Clements Library

University of Michigan

A more usable and tightly integrated site search for researchers and the public showcasing a remarkable historical collection.

The Clements Library needed a significant upgrade in their design, site navigation, and most of all, usability for their core audience of researchers. We created a clean design while still acknowledging the historic library and its holdings, creating line art based on the building’s architectural details and more opportunity to showcase its collection. We also developed a seamless search interface, integrating the website and 3rd party search services for the collection image bank, finding aids, and library catalog. The new site features online exhibits, an events calendar, staff directory, blog, and various interactive forms all easily maintained by library staff.
